Industrial Training Centres

Industrial Training Centres (ITC's) offers training in the following engineering trades at craft level: building, mechanical, electrical, electronics plant and automotive, refrigeration and air conditioning, boiler maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning.
The ITC's are:

  • NITA - NAIROBI
  • NITA - TEXTILE TRAINING INSTITUTE
  • NITA - KISUMU
  • NITA - MOMBASA
  • NITA - ATHIRIVER.

Trade Testing

This section carries out Trade Test in more than 200 centres country-wide. On average 35,000 candidates are trade tested every year. The test are carried out in two series:
August Series
For students attempting Grade I and II tests. (The booking period is between 2nd January and 31st May of each year)
December Series
For candidates attempting the Grade III tests. (The booking period is between 2nd January and 31st July of each year)

Industrial Attachment

This section coordinates Industrial Attachment under the Industrial Attachment Programme. It links industry and institutions for placement of students at the work place for acquisition of practical skills and appropriate work-ethics. The attachment process is constantly monitored in order to ensure a high quality of training of graduates from Universities and other tertiary colleges. Its based at the NITA headquarters.

Levy Inspectorate

The section is based at NITA headquarters, Nairobi, with regional offices in Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa, Athiriver, Embu, Kakamega, Eldoret and Nyeri. The role of the levy inspectorate is to ensure compliance of levy payments. The industrial Training Levy Fund, to which every eligible employer is required to contribute, is used to support, in full or part of the cost of training incurred by the contributing employer.

Curriculum Development

This section is based at the Headquarters, Nairobi, its key roles are to co-ordinate:

  • Development and revision of curricula for Apprenticeship programmes;
  • Development and revision of Trade test syllabi;
  • Training programmes in the centres;
  • Publication of NITA newsletter
