The National Industrial Training Authority is among government agencies involved in implementing a multi-million World Bank- funded youth empowerment programme set to change the fortunes of young Kenyans.

The Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP) is geared towards reversing the alarming levels of youth unemployment which poses a threat to the overall economic well-being of the country.

The Authority in its continued efforts to improve youth employability which is in line with the KYEOP development objective recently held an official launch of the sensitization of potential Master Craftsmen on 29th August, 2017 at its headquarters. The sensitization was attended by among other guests, Principal Secretary in the State Department of labour, Ministry of East Africa Community, Labour and Social Protection, Dr. Khadijah Kassachoon, National Industrial Training Board Director, Mrs. Jacqueline Mugo and NITA’s Director General Mr. Paul. K. Kosgei. Other guests in attendance were the Director of Human Resource and Administration, Mr. Julius Olayo.

The sensitization was carried out so as to equip potential master Craftsmen with sufficient knowledge on conducting informal job specific training while offering internship in the traditional apprenticeship approach for a period of five months to beneficiary youths in demanded job specific skill areas in the informal sector. The training was an avenue for the Master Craftsmen to not only learn about the relevance of KYEOP to Industrial Training, but to reflect on how critical their role is in conducting informal job specific training and internship for a period of five months to beneficiary youths. The Authority had played its role well as the sensitization of the Master Craftsmen was seen as a great stepping stone for the youths to venture into the changing world of work.
