NITA holds third Sector Training Committee Meeting

The National industrial training authority has held third its Sector Training Committees (STCs) meeting for the year 2017. The meeting was held on 29th November at the NITA Headquarter in Nairobi.

In attendance were the Director General, Mr. Paul Kosgei, the Director or Industrial Training, Mr. Stephen Ogenga and members of the STCs.

The Director General emphasized to the members of the Sector Training Committees on the importance of fulfilling some of the key strategies and activities which have been aligned to the programmes in the second MTP 2013-2017 as well as the Labour and employment sector plan 2013-2017 which was approved by the cabinet in 2013 and include: revamping industrial skills development and strengthening linkages between training institutions and industry. He further reiterated that Committees are the vessels through which the Authority will gather relevant information and knowledge, achieve expertise, forge collaboration and attain standards in order to provide commendable service to NITAs stakeholders and enhance our brand as a customer-oriented organization.  

Mr. Kosgei noted that most Sectors had already began the task of collecting Training Needs assessment, which will later be used for purposes of developing market-oriented curricula. Other Sectors have also embarked on developing occupational competency standards for selected skill areas. 

The events also saw different department in NITA present their reports starting with the Finance department followed by the Levy, and Industrial training departments respectively.

The industrial training report covered three main areas which included industrial attachments, apprenticeship, indentured leadership, research and curriculum development, industry-based training and accreditation as well as assessment and certification.
