PRESS RELEASE: THE LAUNCH OF THE NITA STRATEGIC PLAN 2018/22
The NITA Strategic Plan 2018-2022 was developed on the basis of the Government’s policy framework and the national development agenda. It has been formulated under the guidance of the National Industrial Training Board (NITB). The Plan covers a five-year period from 2018/19 to 2022/23. The process used in preparing the plan was participatory engaging, among others, staff of the Authority and key interested parties through committees and Task Teams. The teams benchmarked the Plan against other strategic plans for Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The Plan underwent validation on Friday, 19th October 2018 where contributions from various interested parties were considered and the Plan reviewed to reflect the changes.
The Authority officially launched the Plan on Tuesday, 30th October 2018 at NITA Athi-River in a launch filled with pomp and colour which was attended by among others the Secretary Administration; Dr. William Kiprono who represented the Cabinet Secretary in Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the National Industrial Training Board of Directors as well as the Sector Training Committee [STC] Members. Representatives of employers, active trainers, NITA’s partners as well as various industry players were also present during the event.
The NITA Strategic Plan 2018- 2022 represents a paradigm shift towards promoting skills in industrial training and efficient coordination of related programmes around it. Its primary goal is to ensure that the critical component of skills in the country meet the needs of industry through a collaborative effort of the Interested parties and relevant training. The Plan takes cognizance of the fast-changing need of skills both locally and internationally mainly due to the ever- changing technology. It is therefore necessary to strengthen linkages between training institutions and industry so as to ensure that skills developed remain responsive to changes in industry. This will ensure that highly trained manpower will adequately support all the sectors of the economy.
The Launch of the Strategic Plan was a success and was seen as evidence of the Authority’s commitment to implementing the outlined goals and objectives as NITA seeks to re-align its operational activities to the National Development Agenda.
