NITA - Athi River Centre

Background

NITA Athi – River is located 30km from Nairobi along Namanga Road at the boarder of Athi – River and Kitengela. It is directly opposite junction to EPZA and adjacent to Savannah Cement Ltd. NITA Athi – River is a well equipped Industrial and Technical Training institution under the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

The Centre offers learners a variety of career focused certificate courses in Engineering, ICT, and Fashion Design, Hospitality and Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy up to and including Master Craftsperson level. The Centre takes a motivational, industrial and competency – based approach to trainee instruction.

The section has the following workshops and laboratories which are well equipped with current technology. a) Electrical lab b) Electrical workshop c) PLC lab d) Programmable logic controller lab The section has three male Industrial Training Officers and one female Industrial Training Officer who train in different disciplines.

Sammy Mbatia - Head of SectionBachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering technology from Technical University of Kenya (TUK) , Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from former Kenya Polytechnic.

Machine shop comprises of the following machines;-

Lathe machines
Milling machines
CNC milling and lathe machines
Drilling machines
Heat treatment furnace
Sheet metal rolling machine
Hydraulic pipe bending machine
Hydraulic press

The various courses offered at machine shop are:-

Machinist lathe and Milling Grade III to I and NITA Artisan Level I to III
General fitting Grade III to I and NITA Artisan Level I to III
CNC milling and Lathe machinist (specialized one month course

Welding and fabrication workshop

Welding and fabrication workshop comprises of the following machines;-

Arc welding machines
Gas welding equipments
TIG welding machines
MIG welding machines

The various courses offered at machine shop are:-

Electric arc welding Grade III to I and NITA Artisan Level I to III
Gas welding Grade III to I and NITA Artisan Level I to III
TIG & MIG welding (specialized one month course).
