NITA Unveils Online Skills Upgrading Training Approval System to Enhance Efficiency and Transparency

Employers will soon say goodbye to the cumbersome manual process of seeking training approval from the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), following the development and piloting of a new Online Skills Upgrading Training Approval System.
Announcing the innovation, Director Industrial Training and Skills Development, Jane Kamau, revealed that the platform will officially go live on 1st November 2025, marking a major milestone in NITA’s digital transformation journey. The system will allow employers to submit and track training approval applications online — ensuring faster turnaround times, enhanced transparency and convenience from anywhere, at any time.
A pilot phase involving 25 employers, among them Thika Coffee Mills, Farm Input Promotions Africa, Kenchic PLC, and Kenya Tea Packers, confirmed the platform’s functionality and ease of use. Employers praised its efficiency and transparency, terming it a significant leap in service delivery.
Director Kamau made the announcement in Naivasha on Tuesday, where she represented NITA’s Acting Director General during a high-level stakeholders’ forum convened by the Agricultural Employers’ Association (AEA) and the Kenya Tea Growers Association (KTGA).
The meeting discussed the rollout of the Flower Grower III and Mechanical Tea Harvester III curricula, aimed at boosting productivity, competitiveness and employee empowerment through skills development, assessment and certification.
Speaking during the forum, AEA Chief Executive Officer, Wesley Siele, and Kenya Tea Growers Association CEO, Linda Oluoch, lauded the curricula as critical tools for aligning workforce skills with the evolving demands of the agricultural sector.
AEA Chairman, Kirimi Mpungu, commended the strong collaboration with NITA in implementing levy training and reimbursement programmes, which he said have enabled employers to continually upskill their workforce and enhance performance across the sector.
