The 11th Annual Industrial Training Providers Forum

National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) is a State Corporation established under the Industrial Training Act, Cap 237 (Amended 2011).  The mandate of the Authority is to promote the highest standards in the quality and efficiency of industrial training in Kenya and ensure an adequate supply of properly trained manpower at all levels in the industry.

The Authority is seeking to recruit a highly competent, proactive and self–driven individual to fill the position of the Director General. The Director General shall be the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Board of the Authority and shall bear the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Authority.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director General shall:

  1. Be responsible for the overall operations of the Authority;
  2. Advisethe Board and Government on all matters relating to the implementation of the Industrial Training Act;
  3. Be the Accounting Officer of theAuthority;
  4. Develop and recommend to the Board the long term strategy, business plans and annual operating budgets; and establish proper internal monitoring and control systems andprocedures;
  5. Coordinate and prepare business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by theBoard;
  6. Generate sufficient alternatives to inform Board decisionmaking;
  7. Provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Board on key technical, financial and administrativematters;
  8. Be responsible for stakeholder management and enhancement of the corporate image of theAuthority;
  9. Ensurethat there is effective communication between the Management and the Board as well as between different levels of management;
  10. Provide leadership to themanagement;
  11. Ensure continuous improvement in the quality and value of services and products provided by theAuthority;
  12. Ensurecontinuous achievement of the Authority’s financial and operating goals and objectives;
  13. Oversee and ensure implementation of corporate policies andprograms;
  14. Maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining, and motivatingemployees;
  15. Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship;
  16. Serve as the spokesperson of the Authority on operationalmatters;
  17. Ensure compliance with the laws of theCountry;
  18. Coordinate all regional offices;and
  19. Perform any other duties as may be necessary to achieve the Authority’s objectives as set out in the Industrial Training Act.

The successful applicant should possess extensive leadership and managerial experience of at least fifteen (15) years, five (5) of which must be in senior management. He/she must possess a degree in engineering, technology, administration, finance, technical or industrial education, from a recognized university; and must be affiliated to a professional body. Candidates with post graduate qualifications will have an added advantage. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate in-depth knowledge and a clear understanding of industrial training.

Appointment to the position will be on contract for a term of five (5) years, renewable once, subject to satisfactory performance.
