NITA, Nyandarua Partner to Certify Over 300 Artisans to Enhance their Employability

Over 300 uncertified artisans from Nyandarua County are set for better days, thanks to a partnership between the National Industrial Training Authority - NITA and the Nyandarua County Government aimed at enhancing employability and improving livelihoods through skills recognition and certification.
On Thursday, the two partners flagged off the first cohort of 350 artisans under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme during a colourful launch and sensitization event at Ol’Kalou Vocational Training Centre. The launch was graced by Governor Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha and NITA Director Industrial Training and Skills Development, Jane Kamau.
Director Kamau described RPL as a life-changing programme that acknowledges and certifies skills gained outside formal training, opening doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and personal advancement.
Governor Kiarie hailed the partnership as transformative and inclusive, commending NITA for bringing RPL programme closer to the people. He presented Kshs. 4 million cheque to support the process and committed to sponsor an additional 1,000 candidates in various trades across the county.
As the national regulator of industrial training, the Authority will spearhead the implementation of RPL by training assessors and practitioners, developing assessment standards, accrediting assessment centres, and regulating the screening and evaluation processes. Successful candidates will receive formal certification, validating their skills and enhancing their employability.
