The Ministry also appointed Board members representing both the Ministry Of Labour And Social Protection and the Ministry of Education. The Board was officially inaugurated on 13th October 2020 at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Offices by the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Simon Chelugui. The Principal Secretary, State Department of Labour Eng. Peter Tum, Secretary Administration for Labour Dr. William K. Kiprono and Ag. Director General Mr. Stephen Ogenga was also present during the Inauguration.
NITA’s Industrial Training Act establishes the National Industrial Training Board {NITB} as the apex body. On 14th May 2012, the Minister for Labour gazetted eleven (11) members of the first Industrial Training Board (NITB). The term of office for the 1st Board ended on 15th May, 2016 paving way for the appointment of the 2ndBoard. On 17th June, 2016 the Cabinet Secretary gazetted the Chairman of the Board and the member representing special interests, this appointment was with effect from 31stMay, 2016 and for a period of three (3) years. On 16th September, 2016 the Cabinet Secretary gazetted the other members of the Board, this appointment was effective from 22nd August, 2016 and for a period of four (4) years whose term came to an end on 24th August 2020.
In his remarks as he inaugurated the Board members, the Cabinet Secretary reiterated on the need for the Board to derive its responsibilities from the Board Charter which gives guidance for its operations. He also emphasised on the need for the Board to exercise their best judgment and to act in a manner that they reasonably believe to be in the best interest of the Authority and its stakeholders.
The NITA Board is bestowed with such powers as provided for under Section 4A of the Industrial Training Act. In discharging their obligation, the Board Members are entitled to relying on the honesty and integrity of the Authority’s Management, Staff and its external professional advisors and auditors.
