NITA Deepens County Engagements to Drive Skills Development and RPL Rollout

The National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) has unveiled a bold roadmap to scale up partnerships with counties in a bid to enhance skills development, industrial training, and the national Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) initiative.
During a high-level forum hosted at NITA Athi River on Monday, 23rd June 2025, and attended by County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) for Education and Vocational Training from all 47 counties, NITA’s Acting Director General Theresa Wasike laid out strategic proposals to operationalize resolutions from the forum.
Key among the proposals is the formation of Joint Technical Committees between the Authority and each county, focusing on areas such as:
• Research and Curriculum Development;
• Assessment and Certification;
• Labour Mobility;
• Accreditation & Registration;
• Quality Assurance; and
• National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA).
As part of the immediate priority, counties will be engaged on RPL rollout, with the Authority targeting to assess 420,000 artisans by October 2025 under the Presidential RPL Rapid Results Initiative.
To sustain these engagements, the DG announced that the Consultative forum will be an annual event.
NITA remains committed to building strong, collaborative frameworks with counties to ensure inclusive, industry-driven training and certification for all Kenyans.
